As you read this I’ll be waking up with Greg and William for our first full day in Disney World! Like seriously, who am I?
Anyways, I wanted this morning’s email to be super light and fun by sharing a few of my favorite (and totally random!) songs that have been on repeat lately. See below, along with some insightful commentary to enjoy.
And yes, you’re welcome to giggle along the way, because my musical taste is pretty much all over the board as evidenced here.
Bones – Maren Morris
I referenced this one in a talk I gave at a retreat in North Carolina a couple weeks ago on mindset and personal empowerment. And yeah, it just works: “When the bones are good, the rest don’t matter, yeah, the paint could peel, the glass could shatter…the house don’t fall when the bones are good”
This is Me – Keala Settle and The Greatest Showman Ensemble
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably got some haters out there, at least somewhere, anyways. Which, by the way, is totally cool. There’s a whole lot I love about this song, but as the following lyrics get belted out: “When the sharpest words wanna cut me down, I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown ’em out” I can’t help but feel so powerful, so invincible and so on fire because “I am brave, I am bruised, I am who I’m meant to be, THIS IS ME”
Dreamgirls – Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson
While everyone else is out there listening to “Texas Hold ‘Em” I’m still stuck in 2006 with this one from Beyonce. But if you know me, you know I’m a super late adopter, so this is not actually shocking at all.
Anyways, this classic from one of the most expensive films to feature a predominant African-American starring cast in American film history really gets me going. I think it’s the opening lines (and instrumental crescendo) of the song: “Ladies and gentleman, The Crystal Room is proud to present, the club debut of America’s newest recording stars – The Dreams” that makes me really know that anything and everything (and yes, even our absolutely WILDEST dreams!) is possible. Mmmm, just YES.
C’est La Vie – B*Witched
Yep, I did it. I just took us all the way back to 1997 with no shame in my 11 year old (and now 38 year old) game. Ha! I honestly don’t have much to say about this one, other than it’s so fun, so upbeat and so happy, I am on top of the world when I jam to it. If you see me playing it 15 times in a row in the car and singing at the top of my lungs driving around town, no you didn’t.
So tell me, what are you listening to these days and why? The oldies but goodies and everything else in between, too. Comment below and let me know, I’d love to add it to my playlist.
