Later today, I’ll be opening up the Moments Conference with a discussion on Mindset Matters: Achieving an Abundance + Growth Focused Perspective.
I’d like to share my top takeaways with you here.
First, mindset is a foundation upon which everything else in our lives is built from work to relationships to health, wealth and happiness. It may not be sexy, flashy or even exciting – but in the words of Maren Morris: “The house don’t fall when the bones are good.”
When we build a strong, healthy foundation it allows for expansion in other areas and just like a house, without it, we can’t ever build or grow on top of it.
However, all of us have limiting beliefs that challenge our mindset and attempt to poke cracks in our foundation. Ugh!
Limiting beliefs are a thought or state of mind that we think is the absolute truth and that stops us from doing certain things. They’re actually false, made up and untrue. They are caught/taught from our families, upbringing, schools, churches, cultures, co-workers, friend groups and society as a whole.
Tony Robbins describes it best when he said: “Limiting beliefs are stories we tell ourselves about who we are that hold us back from becoming who we are meant to be.“
Damn, yeah, that hits HARD.
So the million dollar question I know you’re all wondering now is…
How can we overcome our limiting beliefs and strengthen and grow our foundation, aka mindset?
First, you can (literally!) rewire the neural pathways in your brain and tell yourself better stories by using affirmations.
Affirmations are positive statements that can be spoken out loud or in your head and/or written down in a journal, notebook, Google Doc or note on your phone.
It’s best to practice them daily and they are the very first step to telling yourself better stories and changing the way you think.
I have a 100 day affirmation challenge with a 17 page workbook here, or you can simply grab the workbook here. The workbook covers a variety of topics including wealth, abundance, confidence, generosity, joy, self worth, gifts + talents, success, money and gratitude.

You can also check out the I Am affirmations app which provides positive reminders and motivation as well as The Secret to Money app which helps develop a wealth mindset.
Second, watch what you consume.
Does it contract you or expand you? Does it make you feel good or does it make you feel like crap?
Whether it’s social media, the media in general, conferences, mentors, professional organizations, friends, family, etc., pay attention to where and how you show up and how it affects your mental and physical state.
Look to do more of what expands you and feels good and nix anything that feels restrictive or brings you down.
Lastly, understand that your thoughts, feelings and emotions are incredibly valuable AND powerful.
By realizing that your thoughts become your feelings, your feelings become your energy, your energy becomes your vibration and that your vibration equals your point of attraction, which determines the reality around you, you can begin to be mindful of controlling and redirecting your thoughts and feelings, by thinking and feeling something better.
As Henry Ford reminds us: “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t – you’re right.”
