Wise words from an old friend

tell me more

As a multifaceted woman who wears many hats and honors many titles (gah, can y’all relate?!), the one I’m most proud of is encourager.

Meet Courtney

This past week, I had a spontaneous lunch date with an old friend. We hadn’t seen each other in nearly two decades, but recently ran into one another only to realize we basically live in the same neighborhood.

So we did what any well assuming gal pal would do and exchanged updated cell numbers, vowing to “get together.”

I’m a bit surprised, but proud to announce we did just that.

And while at lunch, she said something to me that shook me and I had to share with y’all, too.

Over a glass of Chardonnay, with a fried goat cheese ball in hand, she said (and I quote):

“Courtney – just because you can, doesn’t mean you have to.”

I’m sure you’ve heard a variation of this before – “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should”  but something about what Katy said to me, the “have to” part, *really* resonated.

As y’all know, I’m a big believer that I can be it all, have it all and do it all (and that yes, you can, too!). And y’all, I deeply hold this truth within my core, because well, it’s facts.

But (and big BUT here) it doesn’t mean I have to be, have or do any of it.

I get permission to just exist. To just be. And I am just as worthy as I’ll ever be.

And you know what? You get permission, too.

So if you’ve been feeling the pressure to attain, achieve and conquer – you can let it go.

Katy said so. 😉
