Have you ever heard someone say something and it legit stops you in your tracks?
Like, it hits you and you’re like damnnnnnn, yup.
I had one of those moments recently and I wanted to share it here with you.
I was doing a five day challenge a couple of weeks ago with Brad Bizjack (a super cool mindset coach who is all about rewiring your brain) and he said:
“People don’t complain about things they can’t change.”
Ooof. He got me.
Like, have you ever thought about that?
None of us are walking around complaining about gravity, because we know we can’t do a damn thing about it!
Instead, we’ll complain about all the things that our own personal habits and choices affect – our weight, our sleep, our relationships, our clients, our job, or maybe even our present financial situation, just to name a few.
When, in reality, we have all the power in the world (no seriously, we do!) to create a different circumstance if we aren’t happy with the current one, and the reality is nobody is stopping you but you.
Read that again.
Nobody is stopping you from being, having or doing anything, except YOU.
It’s true.
And untill you a) acknowledge and accept this and b) do something about it, you’re gonna be stuck right where you are with regards to whatever the damn thing is.
Complaining about it isn’t going to do anything other than waste your time, your energy and your breath.
Want to lose weight? Fuel your body with proper nutrition and hydration.
Want to sleep better? Move your body during the day, get outside for fresh air/vitamin D and stay away from eating/screen time at least 1 hour prior to bedtime.
Want to heal the drama you have with your friend/family member/partner/etc? Have a vulnerable and open conversation with them (probably several) and get yourself in with a good therapist on a consistent basis.
Want to have better clients? Hold yourself to higher standards first. Like attracts like.
Want a better job? Get that LinkedIn freshened up, utilize anyone and everyone in your own network and then start scouring the internet for new opportunities.
You get the idea.
So whatever it is that isn’t the way you’d like it to be, stop complaining and go take care of business.
