Growth Mindset vs Limited Mindset

tell me more

As a multifaceted woman who wears many hats and honors many titles (gah, can y’all relate?!), the one I’m most proud of is encourager.

Meet Courtney

I’ve gotta ask…do you have a growth mindset or a limited mindset?

I’d say most everyone reading this question will answer “GROWTH!” because duh, who would want to limit anything?

Like, the brain does NOT like restriction. At all.

Ever tried dieting?

Mmmm hmmm, you know what I’m talking about.

Anyways, you probably answered growth. But the reality is, you’re actually walking, talking and acting like anything but.

LET ME CALL YOU ON YOUR CRAP AND GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE…

You have a growth mindset if you realize everything is temporary. Set backs, hiccups, mis-steps, mismanaged finances, unaligned seasons, arguments with your partner, you name it…it’s all just that: a season. And seasons come and seasons go. Ever heard of winter, spring, summer and fall? Um, yeah.

The flip side to this is that you have a limited mindset if when you experience one of these “seasons” you spiral, freak out, think/feel/act as if it’s going to last forever and that you’re the only one in the entire world that has ever been dealt this card and that you are literally DOOMED, your business is DOOMED and you’re a complete and total failure and what are you ever going to do to get out of this hole and get over this hump? phew

Sound familiar?

(Honestly, even just some of the vibes from that second scenario qualify as a limited mindset and unfortunately, I see y’all out here in this zone every damn day.)

So, how do you flip the script?

HOW DO YOU SHIFT YOUR SHIT?

Well, first and foremost, you’ve gotta be real and acknowledge where you’re at. We can’t ever get to where we desire to go if we first don’t know where we are.

Self awareness full of grace, compassion and empathy (hey, we’re human!) in lieu of force, guilt, shame or pressure wins everytime. Promise.

From there, you make a conscious and deliberate choice (insert self control/discipline) to see and experience the purpose and the lesson and the growth and the opportunity and the pivot and the blessing (albeit, sometimes hidden!) and the path that stuff like this always reveals, even if it takes longer than we’d all prefer.

If not, then you’re missing the whole point and just punishing yourself for no good reason. Because there is purpose and power in EVERYTHING.

So tell me, are you team growth or team limited?
